Art Collection

The Queen’s University Belfast Art Collection is a treasure trove of artistic heritage, comprising gifts, bequests, and purchases since the foundation of Queen's College in 1845. This extensive collection boasts over 1,000 objects, ranging from paintings, prints, video, and photography to sculpture, furniture, metalwork, and silver. These captivating pieces are displayed throughout the University's grounds, both indoors and outdoors, with a particularly impressive hang of over fifty portraits in the Lanyon Building’s Great Hall.

The Collection features works by prominent figures in British and Irish art history alongside notable contemporary artists. Among the artists represented are Basil Blackshaw, Comhghall Casey, Ian Cumberland, Colin Davidson, Paul Henry, Georgina Moutray Kyle, Sir John Lavery, Louis le Brocquy, John Luke, F.E. McWilliam, Sophia Rosamond Praeger, Dorothea Sharp, and Jennifer Trouton. Works within the Collection not only reflect the rich cultural legacy of the University but also offer a fascinating overview of different artistic eras and styles.
