KISS OF LIGHT FROM A NEW DAWN

19.04.18 - 03.06.18

Aidan Koch

Kiss of Light from a New Dawn is a solo exhibition of new work by Brooklyn-based artist Aidan Koch. Working across a range of media – including drawing, painting, books, video, comics, and ceramics – Koch often blurs their conventions to create dreamlike narratives which explore the relationship between perception and reality.

Largely influenced by the work of William Blake, Koch considers the limitlessness of human creativity and potential, projecting it into fantasy and the future to examine the poetry and spirituality of existence. Referencing the early developments of aesthetics through craft and craftsmanship, the exhibition also draws directly from the internet, highlighting its potential as an accessible, ever-growing archive, and as an efficient tool for the dissemination of visual information.

Koch (b.1988, Seattle, Washington) received her BFA in Illustration from the Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, Oregon. Her published works include The Whale (2010), Xeric Award winner The Blonde Woman (2012), the broadsheet-format Q (2012), and After Nothing Comes (2016), a collection of zines originally released between 2008 and 2014.  Koch’s work has previously been exhibited at SIGNAL (Brooklyn), Park View (Los Angeles), Galerie Patrick Seguin (Paris), Weekends (London), and the Whitney Museum of American Art (New York).

She first exhibited at the Naughton Gallery in the group exhibition, Future Ruins.
